Women on a roll

KNOW of an outstanding woman who has contributed to the local community?
The State Government is calling on nominations for the Victorian Honour Roll of Women for next year.
The nominees will form the list of 20 new inductees to the honour roll on International Women’s Day next March.
Cranbourne MP Jude Perera said the Honour Roll acknowledged the achievements of Victorian women from all walks of life who have been pioneers in their chosen field or who have made a major contribution to their community.
“The Victorian Honour Roll of Women was launched in 2001 featuring 250 marvellous stories about our leading women,” Mr Perera said.
On International Women’s Day this year, 24 more women were added to the roll in recognition of their achievements.
Since 2001 the Minister for Women’s Affairs has inducted 356 women to the Victorian Honour Roll. The roll recognises the significant contributions that women have made to their communities and to the lives of other women.
In 2008, Victoria will celebrate the centenary of women’s suffrage in the state.
Mr Perera said every community had their local heroes and this was a chance to acknowledge those achievements. Nominations for the 2007 Honour Roll close on Friday, 22 September. Nomination forms are available on the Office of Women’s Policy website www.women.vic.gov.au.
