Ground into play

FLINDERS MP Greg Hunt visited Tooradin Primary School last week to test out the school’s new playground equipment.
The school recently finished building the playground and installing new heating and cooling facilities as part of the Federal Government’s $106,175 Investing in Our Schools program.
Mr Hunt climbed the playground equipment with students and met the principal, Marjorie Scarce.
Mrs Scarce said the funding had helped provide the facilities for the children sooner rather than later.
Mr Hunt said Tooradin Primary School should be commended on its work to improve facilities for students.
“As a part of the playground upgrade, gardens and a gazebo were constructed,” he said.
“The gazebo has been a popular addition as it provides a sheltered outdoor space for children to play and to eat their lunch and for parents as a meeting point.”
Mr Hunt said the Investing in Our Schools projects were especially significant because they had been identified by the school communities as being critical.
“Often these projects are desperately needed by schools but have not made it to the priority list,” Mr Hunt said.
“Rather, school communities must face the long and arduous task to raise the funding themselves. It has been a welcome boost and money well spent.”
