Punters chase good fields

Glen Atwell
CRANBOURNE Harness Racing Club hosted Australia’s richest regional race day on Sunday, with the finals of the Australasian Breeders’ Crown.
The 10race program started at 12.11pm amid festivities across the course that included a trade show and an array of children’s activities.
Chief executive Jacquie Gluck said the oncourse atmosphere was terrific.
“We had 500 people booked in for dining packages, the turnout on the day was amazing.
“The weather was nice, which always helps,” Ms Gluck said.
The crowd was treated to quality fields and great value in betting markets throughout the day and Ms Gluck said the crowd was full of racing enthusiasts.
“There were a lot of people who saw the depth in the fields and realised just how great the racing would be,” she said.
Unlike other race days, which have a more social slant, Ms Gluck said on Sunday it was the actual racing that was attracting most attention.
“During the races, the grandstand seemed like it had been evacuated, everyone was outside and as close to the racing as they could get, it was good to see such an enthusiastic crowd,” she said.
