Couple attacked as they argue

By Sarah Schwager
TWO people were seriously assaulted outside a Cranbourne hotel, leaving one of them hospitalised.
Police said a man and a woman were arguing inside Kelly’s Hotel late on Friday, 21 July when they were ejected from the hotel.
The defacto couple, both from Cranbourne North, then continued to argue on the street outside the High Street hotel.
Police said the man, 26, and the woman, 24, then crossed the street where a further altercation occurred when they were approached by two or three unknown men. The man was kicked in the side of his face and sustained a broken eye socket, cheekbone and upper jaw.
The woman received a cut to the right cheek and swelling around her right eye.
The altercation occurred at about 12.30am on Saturday, 22 July.
Kelly’s Hotel manager Michael Goldie said he had been working at the hotel for over 25 years and had not seen many serious incidents in that time. He said he could not comment further until the police had completed their investigation.
Police are urging for witnesses to come forward. Anyone with information can contact Detective Acting Sergeant Peter Carroll at Cranbourne CIU on 5995 4577 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
