BRONZE and acrylic are alive in Narre Warren until the end of August.
Two exhibitions, Do You See What I See?, an exhibition of abstract acrylic paintings, and Movement in Bronze, a collection of bronze figurative sculptures, are featured at the Civic Centre Art Space.
Doveton artist Phillip Nevin is responsible for the colourful series of abstracts.
“I’ve always liked to believe that nothing is as simple as it seems, that there’s always something deeper, always another side to every story,” Mr Nevin said.
“In my paintings I try to present a depth of colour, texture and image that attracts the viewer and encourages them to look closer into the painting and then to come back and look again.
“If my artwork can persuade the viewer to ponder, contemplate and spend more time actually looking then maybe they will see what I see.”
Also featured is a bronze exhibition by Bill Ogilvie, who works predominantly as a figurative or semi-abstract sculptor, and models each piece from life before casting it in bronze or other metal.
“My first priority in the creation of a sculpture is to attempt to breathe life, movement and vitality into the bronze. I aspire for the essential life form to come through,” he said.
The City of Casey is currently calling for artists from Melbourne’s south east region to exhibit in the Civic Centre Art Space free of charge as part of its 2007 exhibition program.
About 300 people visit the centre each day.
Application forms and infor-mation regarding the conditions of exhibiting can be downloaded at www.casey.vic.gov.au/arts.
Applications close on Friday, 1 September.
