THE Cranbourne Aquatic and Leisure Centre is one step closer to being built after the contract was awarded this week.
Design of the multi-million dollar complex was awarded to The Cox Group at a special council meeting on Tuesday night.
The design team will cover issues including architecture, planning, mechanical, landscaping, car parking and cost planning under the $2 million contract.
Previous aquatic projects undertaken by The Cox Group include Casey ARC, Sydney International Aquatic Centre, Australian Institute for Sport Aquatic Facility and Asian Games Stadium/Aquatic Centre in Bangkok.
When finished, the centre, to be built at the Casey Indoor Leisure Complex on Berwick-Cranbourne Road, will include a 50-metre competition pool.
There will be spectator seating for 250 people, two leisure pools, a hot water program pool, spa, sauna and steamroom.
The centre will include a weights and cardio room and two rooms for group fitness classes.
There will also be a food and retail outlet, wet and dry change rooms, a creche, and consulting rooms for service providers.
