Bike jumps plea

A HAMPTON Park boy is taking his need for bike thrills to higher forces.
Brock Little, 8, has compiled a petition to have bike jumps installed at a nearby park, which went before the council on Tuesday night.
Brock said while at a garage sale in Berwick, he had noticed a park with bike jumps in it and decided he would try to get the same in his neighbourhood.
The grade two student from Mary MacKillop Primary School in Narre Warren North has since got his thrills from a wooden board with a brick underneath it, much to the horror of his parents Tanya and Michael Little.
Brock said the park on Amber Avenue across the road from his house, which has a football oval, basketball court and playground, was the perfect spot for some jumps.
In the petition, signed by 40 young friends and neighbours, Brock wrote: “I was wondering if at all possible the council would be able to put a few bike jumps made from dirt.
“There is space in the park and I’m sure all the kids in my neighbourhood would really appreciate it and it would give us all something else to do.”
River Gum Ward councillor Wayne Smith put the petition to the council and said a report would come back soon.
Ms Little said since the councillor approached the family, Brock had been very excited, sure that the jumps would go in.
“I helped him write the letter to Council but we didn’t expect to hear anything back,” she said.
Ms Little said while Brock had trouble with reading at school, he was very clever when it came to creative thinking and she was very proud of him.
Brock said his friends had helped take the petition around the neighbourhood and they all hoped to see jumps in the park soon.
