A MAN has been charged over the murder of a woman who was found dead in a creek in Lynbrook on Saturday.
Amitesh Bali Jagroop, 23, of Lynbrook, appeared before the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday charged with one count of murder.
Police said a family member found the 19-year-old woman, also of Lynbrook, in a creek off Carboni Crescent, about 100 metres from her home.
Police were called to the scene at about 1.40am on Saturday and found the woman fully clothed and partially submerged in the creek.
Police said the woman disappeared from her home shortly before midnight.
She had returned there after finishing work at a local fast food restaurant.
Police are waiting for the results of a post mortem examination to determine how the woman died.
The woman’s name has not yet been released.
No application for bail was made on behalf of Mr Jagroop and the case was adjourned to 12 September for a committal mention hearing at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court.
