Magical mayor conjures up an old favourite

CASEY mayor Kevin Bradford shared some magic with Cranbourne Christian College primary students at the new Angus and Robertson store in Cranbourne recently.
About 15 children with a passion for books were treated to his reading of a section of Enid Blyton’s classic book, The Magic Faraway Tree, at the recently opened store in Centro Cranbourne.
The owner of the store, Roberta Clark, said Cranbourne Christian College recently ranked in the top 50 of high achievers for its participation in Australia’s largest ever search to find the nation’s favourite kids’ book, and so the store thought they would reward them.
Cr Bradford said it was important to foster a love of books in children, and reading together as a family was a great way to get this started.
“The Kids’ Top 50 is an exciting concept as I understand Angus and Robertson asked kids themselves what they loved to read, rather than telling them what they should be reading,” Cr Bradford said.
“My own children love reading Harry Potter, books about dinosaurs and Dr Zeuss, and our three-year-old loves me to read him The Wiggles books.
“The Magic Faraway Tree was one of my favourite books when I was a kid, so I thought that I would share it with the Cranbourne children too.”
