Wheels turn on transport to Casey Fields facility

– Sarah Schwager
CASEY mayor Kevin Bradford is calling on the State Government to extend public transport services to the new Cranbourne multimillion-dollar sports complex Casey Fields.
The issue was raised at the Casey Council meeting last week as urgent business.
The council resolved to write to the Premier of Victoria Steve Bracks and Minister for Transport Peter Batchelor to request that the current bus service be extended to both the Blue Hills Retirement Village and Casey Fields.
This would extend the TrainLink bus route by one kilometre from the Casey Indoor Leisure Complex along Berwick-Cranbourne Road.
Cr Bradford said after spending more than $15 million developing Casey Fields, the council was keen to ensure people wanting to use the facility could access the site seven days a week.
“This is particularly important for young people who wish to play sport or for those people who want to take advantage of the venue’s family leisure facilities but do not have a car,” Cr Bradford said. The council is requesting the bus services operate from 8am to 10pm daily.
Cr Bradford said since Casey now had its own Victorian Football League team, the Casey Scorpions, it was also vitally important that football supporters could attend the club’s home games, and that supporters of visiting teams could come to Casey Fields by public transport.
