IT’S not an easy task to write a song about Cranbourne, but Sharon Start did.
And now she’s been honoured with this year’s City of Casey Lindsay King Arts Award.
A music teacher at Cranbourne West Primary School and an active folk musician, Ms Start took home the award at the Mayoral Arts Dinner on Friday 26 August.
The award is known as Casey’s most prestigious prize for the arts and Ms Start was recognised at the dinner for her performance skills, charity arts programming work and church and community choir conducting.
Ms Start has been involved in the performing arts scene in Casey for more than 30 years.
Her Cranbourne song, ‘Once Was a Country Town’, was written about notching up 25 years of living in the same house, in the same suburb in Cranbourne.
Ms Start went out with a bang after performing the song at the Horsham Country Music Festival earlier this year when she took home the most popular busker award on the day.
