DESPITE some neighbourly opposition, the Save Cranbourne West Residents Action Group (SCWRAG) has achieved what it set out to and saved the land on its doorstep from becoming an industrial estate.
The City of Casey was alerted by the Minister for Planning Richard Wynne on Monday 18 January that the land at the corner of Westernport Highway and Hall Road and will be rezoned for housing.
However the changes were decided in December last year after a planning meeting was held with the City of Casey in July.
At the centre of the year-long fight, rezoning advocate, councillor Gary Rowe said: “Council didn’t receive notification until the middle of January.
“At the moment Hon Richard Wynne has agreed to support the rezoning of all the land in the southern part of the area and for council to develop a proposal for the rest of the area and to submit that to them within 40 days,” Cr Rowe said.
“We’ve asked for an extension, given we only received notice on 18 January.
“It is a win but we still have a little way to go.”
Cr Rowe said as part of the rezoning result, Hall Road will become the responsibility of VicRoads.
“Hall Road is going to become a major arterial road which will improve traffic flow for everybody,” he said.
