THE South East Juniors (SEJ) Football League has adopted a room at the Ronald McDonald House (RMH) Monash with their recent donation of $5000.
SEJ general manager Shaun Connell said the league had been donating $3000 to the home-away-from-home family service since 2011.
“We are extremely proud to have donated $17,000 over the past five years,” Mr Connell said.
The longstanding partnership with the Casey clan McDonald’s and the RMH has led to a room at the Monash campus being solely funded by junior league.
“We have adopted room two and it means our money will go toward the maintenance of that room,” Mr Connell said.
“Things like broken taps and tiles can get replaced using that money as well as updating creature comforts like linens, it’s a really productive process.”
The money raised for the children’s charity house was boosted by an umpire’s trivia night which added $2000 to the original figure and Mr Connell said a group of umpires from SEJ also took some time to meet the families.
“Some of our umpires volunteered to cook and prepare meals for the families using the House earlier this year,” he said.
SEJ will maintain the guest room for the next 12 months and will continue to donate to the cause.
“Ronald McDonald House is all about providing juniors and their families with opportunities and their objectives fit perfectly with what we are about,” Mr Connell said.
Manager at the league since 2010, Mr Connell said their donation was a small part of the money needed to keep the house open for families with sick kids.
“Ronald McDonald House Monash needs to raise more than $50,000 over and above the money provided by RHM Charities to keep the centre running,” he said.
