DOTTED with potholes and uneven ground, one Cranbourne resident wants to see Fairfield Street in Cranbourne resurfaced before the ‘hazardous’ stretch of road causes an accident.
Robert Kuhlmann has lived in Cranbourne for four years and drives along Fairfield Street daily.
After numerous phone conversations with MP Jude Perera’s office, Mr Kuhlmann has received written documentation from the Minister for Public Transport Jacinta Allan outlining the works done, but says it’s not enough.
“There’s about eight to 10 potholes that I have seen – some would be 12 inches deep and it’s extremely dangerous.
“They keep getting patched up and eight weeks later they have deteriorated again,” Mr Kuhlmann said.
Jacinta Allen wrote to Mr Perera dated Friday 3 July stating that Public Transport Victoria advised her that Metro is ‘aware of the condition’ of the road and ‘is working to improve it.’
According to Ms Allen’s letter some potholes were filled on Tuesday 12 May, but Mr Kuhlmann said the street is still a safety risk three months on.
“A lot of people will just ignore it but to me it’s an accident waiting to happen.
“The street has a lot of buses using it and eroding the road due to the station and if it’s not sufficient to carry that amount of continuous weight it’s going to keep deteriorating,” he said.
Mr Kuhlmann spoke to Mr Perera’s office two weeks ago and suggested Mr Perera visit the road himself.
“That road needs to be attended to and its Jude Perera’s responsibility to push urgency on the problem,” he said.
Concerned for night drivers and car suspensions Mr Kuhlmann says the road poses a safety risk and wants to see it resurfaced for the benefit of the entire community.
“The potholes have been filled about six times and it’s easy to just write a letter and fill some potholes and forget it again, rather than focusing on the actual ongoing problem and fixing it,” he said.
Star News has contacted Jude Perera for an update on the issue and is awaiting a response.
