Loch it in bowlers…there’s a successful new Sherriff in town

Things don’t get much better than what greeted 47 members of the South West Gippsland Midweek Bowling Group at the Loch and District Bowls Club on Thursday.

It was a marvellous day with beautiful weather in the mid-twenties – along with great friends to play with and against and a wonderful green to play on.

The bowlers were signed in by Bev and John while Vern arranged the teams for the weekly challenge.

Once the bowlers were told their teams and went onto the green; the real fun began for the day.

As usual there was lots of laughter and plenty of friendly banter as friend challenged friend for superiority on the green.

There were a few wrong bias bowls, which is always welcomed – courtesy of donations – by the Royal Children’s Hospital.

There was some great bowling across all the greens along with a few wild shots, but lots of laughter from all quarters.

As usual, not all our wonderful bowlers can win each week and this week is no difference.

This week’s winners on a great score of 39 were Margaret Hoy (3), Peter Taylor (2), Beb Hyslop (L) and Bill Sherriff (S).

Runners Up on a score of 36 were Peter Gratton (S), Neil Andreatta (3), Derek Fenn (2) and Steve Banks (L).

Best One Game winners on a score of 18 were Pat Kennedy (S), John Kappler (L), David Talbot (3) and Max Williams (2).

A special congratulation to the team consisting of Trevor Loughridge (S), Raff Merante (3), Peter McWilliams (2) and Frank Verco (L).

It doesn’t happen too often, but today these wonderful bowlers managed to score an eight against their opponents on one end; great job team!

A big thank you goes to the Loch members for all their hard work, especially to Trevor who does so much for our group as well as Alex and Paul who cleaned up after the game.

Your efforts are very much appreciated by everyone.

This week we will be meeting at Corinella Bowls Club to once again fight it out for teams of the week.

Please be on site by 10am to allow time to prepare the teams.

This week will be the final week for 2025 so please, make it a memorable week for all.

Unfortunately, with numbers generally reaching our capacity we will have to be strict on a 10am cut off time.

Meanwhile till then, have fun and stay safe.
