Full house at San Remo as midweek bowlers turn out in force

SWGMW BOWLS

The ‘full house’ sign was up at San Remo Bowls Club on Thursday with an incredible turnout of 58 members of the South West Gippsland Midweek Bowling Group taking part in the weekly challenge.

All eight rinks were in play on a crisp and beautiful late-autumn day that the players thoroughly enjoyed.

It was another week, with great company, and another great day for bowls.

The group was met once again by Pauline and John who welcomed us to the club as Peter prepared the teams with help from Claire, David and Rob.

Out on the green many friendships were forgotten as the weekly challenge progressed, but this did not stop the laughter and good humour that prevailed among the players.

There were one or two wrong bias shots today, but it will still take a while to refill the Royal Children’s Hospital tin for next year; but we are headed in the right direction.

Today’s well-deserved winners on a score of 36 were Bill Sheriff (3), Jenny Smith (L) and Michael Dady (S).

Runner’s up on a score of 35 were Colin Scales (2), Margaret Hoy (3), Claire Sheers (S) and Elaine Williams (L).

Best One Game winners were Peter McWilliams (L), Marianne Scales (2), Tony Heppleston (S) and Raf Merante (3).

A big thank you also to Peter behind the bar as well as Aggie and Claire for all the hard work in the kitchen.

I really must, once again, thank all those marvellous volunteers who keep our family of bowlers coming back week after week.

This week we will be playing at Loch and District Bowls Club.

Please, be on time as the numbers are getting very close to a full house and if you are in after the books are full then you may have to miss out.

Meanwhile, until then, have fun and stay safe.

In finishing, a quick apology to Max Summers who I accidentally named as Max Williams in last week’s write up.
