O’Shea Road extension opens

Access between Berwick and Beaconsfield has been made easier, with the O’Shea Road extension opened to traffic on Wednesday 24 August.

The O’Shea Road extension provides motorists a vital link between Soldiers Road in Berwick and the newly upgraded Beaconsfield Interchange.

Motorists trying to access the Princes Freeway from Berwick would previously need to travel via Clyde Road, but the O’Shea Road extension and upgraded Beaconsfield interchange means motorists can also now access the freeway via O’Shea Road.

The existing O’Shea Road will also boast two extra lanes in each direction from Clyde Road to Soldiers Road when fully opened.

The upgrade works on the 1.6km stretch of O’Shea Road with three lanes in each direction will be fully open to traffic in the coming weeks.

Roundabouts at Skyline Way and Bridgewater Boulevard, as well as the Soldiers Road intersection have been upgraded to signalised intersections, with new pedestrian crossings at each intersection.

Lane closures will be in place on O’Shea Road between Clyde Road and Soldiers Road while crews complete final guardrail installation, linemarking and landscaping works.

The upgrade to O’Shea Road and Beaconsfield Interchange are a part of Stage 2 of the Monash Freeway Upgrade, which has boosted capacity for the 470,000 motorists who use the freeway every day.
