More than six months after its opening, a special playground in Clyde is giving kids of all abilities the chance to get out and have fun.

Variety Livvi’s Place at Stockland Edgebrook opened in December 2020 and has proven to be popular with local families.

The park was specifically designed for families living with autism, with input from play and behavioural child development experts.

The integrated playspace features elements such as water sensory zones, quiet nooks and interactions with nature, which all play an important role for those on the autism spectrum to find calmness in a busy place.

Hannah Costin said her sons, 13-year-old Zach and eight-year-old Kai, feel safe and comfortable at Variety Livvi’s Place.

“It makes me feel relieved to have a park like this as I know the kids are safe which puts my mind at ease as they can just play and be themselves,” Ms Costin said.

She said the park catered to the needs of her family, such as being easy to navigate on days when Kai needs to use a mobility aid.

“The park is a place where all kids can play and make friends,” she added.

“It’s also great for parents to meet other parents or carers who have children with the same additional needs.”

Ms Costin said she liked the way the park caters to the whole family, offering shaded areas, seating, BBQ and toilet facilities and wider slides to the whole family can play together.

Her sons Zach and Kai said they had already picked out their favourite spaces in the playground.

“Our favourite parts of the park are the flying fox and the trampolines because they are fun and very close to our house so we don’t have to go far,” they said.

Variety Livvi’s Place at Stockland Edgebrook is located on Merribrook Boulevard, Clyde.
