Charges laid after drive-by shooting

Southern Metro Region Crime Team detectives have charged four men following an alleged drive-by shooting in Cranbourne West on Thursday 8 July.

It’s alleged a firearm was discharged into a residence on Black Gum Crescent about 12.50am before the vehicle, a silver Mercedes sedan fled the scene.

Fortunately, the residents were uninjured.

Police Air Wing observed the vehicle a short time later travelling through the south eastern suburbs.

It is alleged the vehicle was involved in a collision with a truck and another vehicle on the Monash Freeway near the Springvale Road exit.

Fortunately, the drivers of each vehicle were uninjured.

Police Air Wing continued to follow the silver Mercedes to the corner of Burwood Highway and Commercial Road, Ferntree Gully where local police and the dog squad arrested four males and located two firearms.

It is alleged the vehicle used in the drive-by shooting was stolen earlier in the evening during an aggravated carjacking in Maidstone about 9pm.

A 27-year-old man from Wyndham Vale has been charged with carjacking, theft of motor vehicle, threat to inflict serious injury, assault in company, unlawful assault, reckless conduct endanger life, reckless conduct endangering serious injury, possess/carry unregistered general category handgun, prohibited person use a firearm, two counts of commit indictable offence whilst on bail and contravene condition of bail.

A 31-year-old man from Melton West has been charged with carjacking, theft of motor vehicle, threat to inflict serious injury, assault in company, unlawful assault, reckless conduct endanger life, reckless conduct endangering serious injury, possess/carry unregistered general category handgun, prohibited person use a firearm, two counts of commit indictable offence whilst on bail and contravene condition of bail.

A 31-year-old man from Ascot Vale has been charged with carjacking, theft of motor vehicle, threat to inflict serious injury, assault in company, unlawful assault, possess drug of dependence.

A 31-year-old man from Braybrook has been charged with carjacking, theft of motor vehicle, threat to inflict serious injury, assault in company, unlawful assault, two counts of commit indictable offences whilst on bail, reckless conduct endanger life, reckless conduct endangering serious injury, drive at a speed dangerous, drive in a manner dangerous.

They will all face Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on Friday 9 July.
