Cranbourne Bowls Club has celebrated its new outdoor area with shade sails, just in time for spring.

Under blue skies, Casey mayor Amanda Stapledon joined club members for the grand opening and to kick-off the new bowls season on Saturday 31 August.

The project was made possible thanks to a $60,581 grant through the State Government’s Pick My Project last year.

Club chairman John McKenna said it was a great win for the club which took pride in being a “community club.”

He said the new area would hold up to 80 people, and provide sun protection for spectators and players.

Mr McKenna said the club loved running all-ability bowl days, school programs, barefoot bowl events, and more – with the new outdoor area being the perfect spot for people to relax.

“It enhances the whole club because now we have an entertainment area,” he said. “It’s just opened up the whole club to everybody.”

The two new patio areas were named after two dedicated Life Members, Ray Boskell and Shirley Venvillecan.

Mr McKenna said: “Our club is thankful for this great opportunity we have been given.”

The club put in $15,000 to finish the project which includes two large water proof shade sails.

Cr Stapledon said she was honoured to open the new facility: “This is a wonderful club … I was so grateful to be a part of this special day.”
