Firefighters from Cranbourne fire brigade extinguished a grass and scrub fire on a vacant land in Cranbourne last Thursday, 15 March.
Just after 4.20pm two fire vehicles and police were called to the fire which is believed to have started near Murray Court and the train line.
A police spokeswoman said it appeared a resident dumped some ash on the vacant block earlier in the day.
At about 4pm one of the ambers, she said, has reignited, causing the fire which was brought under control at 4.30pm.
Police are investigating the circumstances of the fire and making enquiries with residents on Murray Court.
