THIS month carols will be sung and candles lit for the 23rd year running in Narre Warren North.
But not everything will be the same, with the Narre Warren North Uniting Church and communuity carols moving to a new venue for the first time in more than two decades – from Claire Robinson Park to Abeckett Road Reserve.
Bert Rae, the co-ordinator of the carols and a 70-plus year stalwart of Narre Warren North, said everyone involved was looking forward to the change of scenery.
“We have really grown over the years and needed to look for a new venue which had adequate parking,” he said.
“Our new reserve is three or four times bigger than Claire Robinson Park.”
Bert said there were always challenges when moving to a new area, especially after being so used to the previous facility, but he said the carollers were excited for the move.
“It’s a lot of work but I get so much pleasure out of running the carols,” he said.
“My highlight every year is when Father Christmas makes an appearance and seeing the looking on the faces of all the kids.”
The Narre Warren North Carols is sponsored by several organisations and will feature the Cranbourne Chorale, the Cranbourne Concert Band and the Narre Warren North School Choir.
The carols will take place on Saturday 14 December at Abeckket Road Reserve on A’beckett Road from 6.30pm for a $7 entry fee, which will include candles, sausages, lollies and a drink.
