Fresh start for old facility

By BRIDGET COOK

VCAL students at Cranbourne Secondary College now have a modern building to call home.
The school unveiled its recently refurbished Applied Learning Centre this month to many guests including current year-12 VCAL students, staff and community members.
The timeworn building, which was built in the late 1970s, received a new roof and was specifically redesigned to accommodate the college’s strong cohort of VCAL students.
Cranbourne Secondary College publicity and promotions manager Jan McAleese said that the centre has been back in use since the beginning of the school year and the students were thrilled.
“Students enjoyed choosing some of the new furniture now in use,” she said.
“This facility has made a significant difference to students and staff who are now working in a highly operative environment.”
The renovations were funded by the college and the Department of Education and Early Childhood Department.
Parent Kevin Nolan, whose daughter Kate was named the inaugural 2012 VCAL Valedictorian, generously donated an honour board for the building to record future VCAL Valedictorians.
