POLICE were out in force around Casey’s transport hubs over the weekend to crack down on crime as part of Operation Trojan.
More than 60 local police, transit police and members from the operation response unit saturated Casey’s public transport locations including Cranbourne, Berwick and Narre Warren railway stations and the train lines.
Casey Police Service Area Inspector Andy Miles said the operation focussed on improving public safety and reducing crime around public transport locations.
“We wanted to crack down on public order offences including minor public assaults, public drunkenness and public behaviour offences,” Insp Miles said.
Police checked 468 people over Friday and Saturday night.
Of those people checked, police arrested one person for public drunkenness, on person was found with a weapon, three people committed liquor offences, two were arrested for assault, three for drug offences and nine for outstanding warrants for arrest.
Highway Patrol police were also out in force, targeting the two-kilometre radius around the transport hubs.
Police intercepted 407 vehicles and performed random breath tests on 271 people.
Thirty four people were detected for speed offences, four people for drink driving, 11 people for driving without or a disqualified licence and 89 people for other traffic offences.
Insp Miles said he was very happy with the results from a policing perspective.
