CRANBOURNE received a drenching last Thursday, with 33mm of rain falling during a short burst of storm activity.
Peter Ralls, the manager of Kelly’s Hotel on High Street in Cranbourne, said there was a “small river” out the front of the hotel when the storm hit in the afternoon.
Most of the rain Cranbourne received last Wednesday fell in half an hour.
“We didn’t realise it was going to be so heavy,” Mr Ralls said.
“We stayed open and it dried up pretty quickly.”
The Narre Warren SES unit was kept busy during the stormy weather, receiving more than 40 requests for assistance between 26 November and 4 December.
Strong winds on 29 November saw 11 trees fall, with four causing traffic hazards for motorists.
The downpour last Thursday resulted in 15 calls to the SES for help with flash flooding, roof leaks and a few fallen trees.
A car hit a house at Nettle Drive in Hallam on 4 December and destroyed the wall where the external electricity meter box was mounted.
SES crews had to wait until the power company arrived to disconnect the mains supply from the street before they were able to work on the roof structure.
