Road upgrade hits fast lane

NEW lanes on Cranbourne’s Thompson Road are set to open soon, six months ahead of schedule.
The road upgrade is between Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road and the South Gippsland Highway.
Cranbourne MP Jude Perera and Narre Warren South MP Judith Graley welcomed the news on Tuesday.
“Early completion of this divided road link is further evidence of the government’s commitment to delivering key road improvements that better connect communities in the City of Casey,” Ms Graley said.
“Thompson Road through Cranbourne carries around 20,000 vehicles per day and with growing residential development in and around the region, traffic congestion is a major problem affecting the quality of life in local communities.”
She said the latest upgrade catered for current and future traffic in the area.
Mr Perera said the upgraded stretch of Thompson Road would reduce travel times and improve traffic flow, while supporting residential and commercial growth in Cranbourne and surrounding areas.
“The Thompson Road upgrade provides increased capacity on this vital road link, providing a safer and easier divided highway,” he said.
Other nearby local projects on track for completion later this year include the duplication of Thompson Road between the Mornington Peninsula Freeway and Dandenong-Frankston Road, and the Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road upgrade between Centre and Pound roads.
