Burn-off declared a success

By Kelly Yates
THE bushland at Cranbourne South’s Morning Mist Reserve had a successful ecological burn last Wednesday.
The main fire was lit in the afternoon and then put out later that evening but the area was monitored for hot and smouldering patches.
Ecological burn-offs are an important part of managing reserves for fuel reduction, weed control and supporting the growth of indigenous vegetation.
City of Casey’s manager for engineering and environment David Richardson said council had been undertaking controlled burns at the Morning Mist Reserve annually for a number of years.
The ecological burn had been approved after extensive planning and all local residents were advised of the burn-off through a letterbox drop.
The Morning Mist Reserve is now open to the public.
