Funding for island path hooks anglers

TOORADIN is set for further beautification works following the announcement of a $6,100 Federal Government grant to construct an access track to the second island of Sawtells Inlet.
The funding, provided through the Recreational Fishing Community Grants Program, will allow the Tooradin Foreshore Committee of Management to build a formal path around the island.
Committee of Management vice-president, Ron Mantel, said the project was part of the Tooradin Township Village Strategy to provide walking trails and access paths throughout the coastal town.
“We have a fair few people fishing off the second island so this funding will allow us to put some gravel down and construct a formal path.
“At the moment, there is only vegetation on the island, so this will ensure people are not sitting in long grass,” he said.
Mr Mantel said the Foreshore Committee was hoping to start construction as soon as possible.
Flinders MP Greg Hunt congratulated the Tooradin Foreshore Committee of Management for lobbying the Federal Government for improvements.
“I commend Mr Ron Mantel and the members of the Tooradin Foreshore Committee of Management who have taken the initiative to improve the facilities available to the public and fishermen,” he said.
