Classy upgrade for Pearcedale

PEARCEDALE Primary is a whole new school following the completion of major renovations.
Education delivery will be a breeze for staff with the construction of eight general purpose classrooms, a new administration foyer, new toilet facilities, library extensions, refurbishment of staff and conference amenities and an outdoor basketball court.
New deaf and reading recovery facilities will also improve learning opportunities for the school’s hearing impaired students.
Stage two of the transformation will start next year with the construction of an indoor sporting facility.
Principal Don McKenzie thanked the school community for its cooperation over the past 12 months.
“Everyone has put up with a lot of mud and building sites during the last year but now we have new facilities to see our way forward,” he said.
“All our buildings are now aligned along Baxter-Tooradin Road and Perryman Street and we can provide better working spaces for our teachers and kids.
“We are also the only primary deaf facility for the southern metropolitan region, which is great.
“This is a very positive time for the school,” Mr McKenzie said.
Hastings MP Rosy Buchanan said the upgrade was only made possible through a $2.3 million state government grant.
“The bricks and mortar education budget helps create learning environments that benefit the whole community,” she said.
“These new facilities help Pearcedale Primary School achieve education learning objectives in literacy and numeracy outlined in the school charter for all students, including those students with hearing impairments.
“This funding directly enables hearing impaired students through the Pearce-dale Deaf Facility to achieve literacy and numeracy objectives,” Ms Buchanan said.
