AFTER the success of the new Cranbourne Blue Light Disco, a spooky theme will hit off the third disco next week.
Committee president Debbie Nobbs said in order to develop positive relationships among the teenagers, with local police and adults, a disco for students in grades five to eight would be held one Saturday every month.
Ms Nobbs said she wanted to see the attitude towards young people in the community change from a negative to a positive one and after the first two discos they were well on their way.
“As a local myself I know that we have many fantastic young people in our community,” she said.
“Numerous adult volunteers remarked on how polite and well-behaved the participants were and how nice it was to see young people out having fun.”
The disco also has young people involved in developing and running the discos, including treasurer Jade Whyte, 19, who not only keeps the books but also contacts local businesses seeking support.
Then on the day of the disco, a number of kids in their early teens help set up and pack up at the event.
The next disco, to be held on Saturday 27 October, will be a Halloween event, with prizes for the best dressed on the night.
The disco runs from 6pm to 10pm at the Cranbourne Public Hall and includes a professional DJ and lighting effects and is a drug and alcohol-free event.
The cost is $10 and the hall will be decorated, with face painters available to help everyone to get into the spirit.
The August event saw 160 students attend and 180 in September.
