Extra marks boost VCE scores

NINE Cranbourne students were among VCE maths students to have their scores raised last week.
More than 3000 students across Victoria had their scores for VCE Maths Methods, Specialist Maths, and Food and Technology increased by up to two points after the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) was forced to recalculate their results.
A VCAA spokesman said nine students in the Cranbourne area were notified last Wednesday of the changes to their results, which were adjusted after an error was discovered in the initial calculation of results.
VCAA chief executive John Firth said no student would have their VCE results lowered as a consequence of the VCAA’s revised calculation of results.
Mr Firth apologised to the students for any inconvenience the error may have caused.
“For most students in these subjects, study scores will remain unchanged. A small proportion of students will have their study score increased by one or two points,” Mr Firth said.
Many of the affected students also received a new ENTER from the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC).
The change has meant a quick readjustment of some courses by universities, with first round places offered on Tuesday.
“The VCAA has worked closely with VTAC to ensure that no student will be disadvantaged as a result of these changes,” Mr Firth said.
“All changed results and ENTERs will be correctly updated in time for the first round of tertiary offers.
“Each student’s amended results will be sent to tertiary selection officers for all courses on their list of preferences in time to be considered for the first round.”
