COMMUNICATION is the key to wedding gold.
So say Allen and Dorothy Angus of Cranbourne who celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at a party at the Somerville Hotel on Sunday, 24 September.
The couple, who married at Sunshine Presbyterian Church on 22 September 1956, hosted 87 guests at the celebratory shindig.
Allen said he was “extremely thrilled” to reach the milestone and to celebrate with family and friends on a beautiful day.
“The wedding day was cold and miserable, so we’ve improved,” he said.
Rex Lothian of Narre Warren, Allen’s best man and pal since 1948, was at the bash, as was the entire bridal party apart from one bridesmaid.
Allen’s sister also went along, as did Dorothy’s two sisters and brother.
The Anguses are also passing on their loving example to a younger generation, with their five children and 15 of 16 grandchildren also in attendance.
Allen and Dorothy, who are both life members of Cranbourne Fire Brigade, agree on the secret of their success.
“Sharing and communication are the most important things,” Dorothy said. “If you’ve got a problem you have to sit down and talk about it.”
After all these years, the couple is taking nothing for granted. “We reckon it’s great to be able to get this far,” Dorothy said.
“But I don’t think you ever stop learning – there’s always something new.”
