CASEY Council has praised the success of Vic-Roads’ BlackSpot Program in identifying notorious roads throughout the city.
More than $30 million of government funding has been allocated to Casey since 1999-2000 for safety improvements at some of the city’s most dangerous roads.
The BlackSpot Program addresses locations where three or more casualty accidents have occurred in the past five years.
A number of sites have undergone recent upgrades, including Pearcedale Road in Cranbourne South, Baxter-Tooradin Road and the South Gippsland Highway and Churchill Park Drive in Endeavour Hills.
Councillors at last week’s council meeting voted to write to VicRoads and DOTARS acknowledging the BlackSpot funding allocated to Casey in recent years.
Four Oaks Ward councillor Rob Wilson urged council to show its appreciation.
“We have received substantial funding over the years from the BlackSpot Program,” he said.
“An enormous amount of BlackSpot traffic and road problems have been solved because of these projects.
“We keep getting up lobbying for money from the government but too often they don’t hear back that we are appreciative.”
