School rock smash scare

THREE year nine students at Cranbourne Secondary College got the fright of their lives last week when someone threw a rock through a classroom window.
Police said a man was seen throwing a rock from a car as the car drove past the Clarendon Street side of the school last Tuesday, 21 November, at 5pm.
Three students were working on their drama play when the window was smashed and they quickly alerted a staff member.
Principal Yvonne Watts said the incident was dangerous and it was lucky it had not been worse.
“If that had been a classroom full of students it would have been a different story,” she said.
“That sort of behaviour is not condoned here.”
Ms Watts urged people to contact police if they knew anything to help them apprehend the culprits.
She said the rise in vandalism and thefts at local schools, particularly at primary schools, was alarming, and especially if the offenders were the schools’ own students.
“Some students do not recognise that the school is their home and they should be protecting it, not damaging it,” she said.
Ms Watts said Cranbourne Secondary College was fairly well protected so there had not been much damage to it, apart from a couple of incidents on the Clarendon Street side where the portable classrooms were located.
Cranbourne police are searching for a black VL Commodore with P-plates that was seen at the scene of the crime at Cranbourne Secondary College.
The male passenger, who was seen throwing the rock, was described as between 18 and 19 years old.
Anyone with information about the incident should contact Detective Senior Constable Mark Wiederhold at Cranbourne CIU on 5991 0661.
