Transport on Family First agenda

FAMILY First Senator Steve Fielding was in Casey last Friday after launching the party’s transport policy.
Senator Fielding visited the Clyde Road intersection in Berwick, as well as the proposed site for the Cranbourne East Railway Station, with other Family First candidates.
“Family First recognises that families in the outer suburbs and regions have been hardest hit by spiralling petrol prices,” Senator Fielding said.
He said Family First’s transport policy called for new and better roads across the state, to fix dangerous intersections and cheaper public transport.
Family First candidate for Narre Warren North, Peterine Smulders, said families now had fewer transport options.
“Public transport is so expensive it is often cheaper, and more convenient, to take the car,” Mr Smulders said.
Family First want to abolish zones 2 and 3 on the Metcard system, bring back tram conductors and improve Victoria’s most dangerous and congested intersections and railway crossings.
Senator Fielding said Family First also supported fixing problems such as the Springvale Road and Maroondah Highway Road and rail intersections and the Clyde Road and rail intersection in Berwick.
