Hooked on fishing

CASEY residents are being encouraged to head down to Casey Fields for some school holidays fishing.
Popular fishing identity Paul Worsteling was on hand with his fishing rod last week to offer his support for the new fishing precinct.
Casey mayor Kevin Bradford said Casey Fields is continuing to expand with many programs on offer and now fishing could be added to the list.
“Thanks to council’s successful funding application to the Fisheries Revenue Allocation Committee, the main lake at Casey Fields has now been stocked with trout ready for catching,” Cr Bradford said.
As part of the Family Fishing Lake Program, Casey Fields received its first stock of 300 advanced yearling rainbow trout in time for the school holidays.
Future stocking will take place to coincide with term breaks and other special events.
“Casey Fields is set to be an angler’s paradise,” Cr Bradford said.
“The surrounding picnic areas and grasslands are a great spot to bring the whole family.”
A bag limit of five fish applies which includes both catch and release, or the fish can be taken home.
There is no size limit, however, normal fishing regulations apply.
Most people need a licence to fish unless they have a pension which entitles them to fish without a licence.
Juniors up to the age of 18 also do not require a licence.
