A SEASONED marathon runner, Cranbourne’s Jake Ward has a new goal – to run from Brisbane to Melbourne.
The 1500km run from the Gold Coast, back home to Cranbourne, is all in the name of the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
Jake aims to raise more than $50,000 for the foundation and Brian’s Gourmet Meats has been helping him get there.
A Father’s Day raffle was held at the Lyndhurst butcher shop on Saturday 27 August, where the team raised $702.
“Brian’s Gourmet Meats had a raffle going for a few weeks, they had money tins going around and posters up everywhere, they’ve been a real help,” Jake said.
Breast cancer has struck the Ward family twice.
“It all started off when my cousin Samantha passed away from breast cancer; she was only 31 at the time,” Jake said.
“A few years after that, my aunty on the other side of my family had breast cancer and passed away during recovery.
“I thought I’m young and I can do something. I didn’t really know what I was good at, so I decided to run.”
