CRANBOURNE is home to the safest public swimming pool in Victoria.
Casey RACE recreation and aquatic centre won the title due to its water safety practices.
Aquatics and Recreation Victoria’s Watch Around Water Award officially awarded the Cranbourne East centre this month.
Watch Around Water is an education and public awareness raising program, to address the growing concern regarding supervision of young children at public swimming pools.
Casey RACE Centre Manager, Barry Harrison, said: “Drowning is the leading cause of unintentional death in children under five years of age. Hence why we need to be pro-active in keeping our patrons safe.”
Watch Around Water was developed in Western Australia by LIWA Aquatics and the Royal Life Saving Society in 2004, in response to a number of drowning deaths involving young children.
