ALISON Allan competed in her first boxing match two years ago and now with an Australian championship under her belt the Cranbourne mum has a professional career in her sights.
The mum of two won her first Australian title in Queensland on Saturday 21 November against six-foot tall Rebecca Burgess from South Australia.
“There was a big crowd with a massive support network in the room and she came out more aggressive in the first round,” Alison said.
Normally a nervous fighter, Alison said she was more relaxed than she’d ever been prior to a big fight.
“I stepped it up in the next three rounds and in the last round I knew I was starting to hurt her so I just kept attacking.
“I won the fight with a technical knockout,” she said.
But outside of the ring the family of four are all fighting one battle – leukaemia.
Six year old Bella Allan was diagnosed with T-cell leukaemia in September but Alison said the tough contact sport has helped her through the diagnosis and treatment of her young daughter.
“Boxing has played a huge part in my life and it is something that is getting me through at present – it’s the best form of therapy,” she said.
With her gloves on Alison said she has drawn strength from her beloved Bella.
“I knew no fight I was going to face in the ring was even going to come close to the fight she has ahead of her.”
Alison started her love affair with boxing after doing cardio boxing classes and said she hasn’t looked back since she was convinced to go amateur.
“I’ve now had 12 fights and after winning the championship title it qualifies me to trial for the world games in April/May next year,” she said.
